Level 2 Category

Definition

A visual representation of the the quantized energy levels of atoms or molecules and the transitions between them (e.g., absorption, emission). They are used in physics, chemistry, and spectroscopy.

Writing Alternative Text

Describe the different energy levels available in the system, the gaps or steps between them, and any important transitions or patterns.

Example Alt Text

"An energy state diagram shows singlet and triplet charge transfer states with transitions between S 0, 1 C T 1, 1 C T 1 prime, 3 C T 1, and 3 L E levels. Energy gaps of 20, 60, and 75 millielectronvolts are labeled. Blue and red arrows indicate radiative decay and reverse intersystem crossing pathways with rate constants up to 1 times 10 to the 6 reciprocal seconds."
